Professional Training Program - 3 Years
Stage One
“This course runs over 18 months and is designed to provide the personal orientation and practical skills necessary for developing as a therapist, counsellor and healer. It focuses on ways of attending to personal experience that develop the internal ground, resources and capacities that allow us to attend to others…
Stage Two
The next stage of the course comprises a series of modules offered over eighteen months (6 terms). The work from The Mythic Way program forms the basis for ongoing study and practice of therapeutic interventions from: Energy psychology, Body-centred psychotherapies, Jungian psychotherapy, Humanistic psychology, Ericksonian hypnosis and psychotherapy…
Graduates of the course are eligible for membership The Association of Soul Centred Psychotherapists Inc. (ASCP) [a constituent member association of PACFA, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia]. Stage One - The Mythic Way
There are 5 units in the Mythic Way:
- MW1. Soulful Presence Counselling
- MW2. Focusing
- MW3. Thought Matrix Meridian Counselling and Healing
- MW4. Maps for the Journey
- MW5.Thought Matrix Chakra Counselling and Healing
MW1: SOULFUL PRESENCE COUNSELLING
This unit is designed to develop the capacity to be energetically present with oneself as well as with the other in a therapeutic relationship. The initial emphasis is on learning to be fully present with one’s own experience. A core part of this is the development of witness. This includes mindfulness and attentional practices, working with the energetic field, and learning to use the senses (internal and external perceiving) to gather information.
Areas of training include attending to body senses through specific processes. Tracking sensory-based information involves learning to develop a sensory acuity in perceiving visual, auditory and kinaesthetic cues. These areas of study involve conceptual material and experiential exercises which form a basis for ongoing practice. The use of language is explored with an emphasis on effective use of language to bring people into an authentic connected experience which is embodied and immediate.
Language use is studied to develop mindful, artful use of therapeutic language.
MW2. FOCUSING
This unit offers a comprehensive approach to working with the therapeutic strategy of Focusing, an attentional process that facilitates mindbody processing.
Much of what a person knows has never been consciously thought and verbalised. Focusing is about attending to a bodily felt sense that accompanies human experience. The focusing process makes this felt sense more tangible and accessible. In Soul Centred Psychotherapy this includes giving form to whatever arises in the Focusing process.
On completion of the unit, students will demonstrate a sound knowledge of the theory and practice of Focusing. It is expected that they will be able to use this therapeutic intervention safely and effectively in their own personal work and as a therapeutic tool.
MW3. THOUGHT MATRIX MERIDIAN COUNSELLING AND HEALING
In this unit we explore:
- The nature of an energy-based approach to psychological problems and its relevance to client concerns.
- Procedures for assessing the body’s energies as they impact on psychological problems.
- Checking for and correcting specific forms of neurological disorganisation that tend to interfere with the outcome of energy based techniques.
- Checking for and correcting psychological reversals which also interfere with treatment outcomes.
- Identifying an initial target problem and formulating the problem for energy intervention.
- Assessing the client’s subjective level of distress in relationship to the target issue as well as the level of distress in the body’s energetic response to the target issue.
- Energetically “locking” the problem into the body for the purpose of treatment.
- Proceeding with a series of interventions designed to re-pattern the way the target issue evokes a disruption in the client’s energies.
- A series of predesigned formula interventions similar to Emotional Freedom Technique.
- Diagnosis and administration of an individualised tapping treatment.
- Anchoring the gains by
- pairing energy methods with projecting the outcome into back home situations
- teaching energy techniques for clients to use back home
- anticipating and planning for setback
These understandings and techniques equip students to treat safely and effectively post-traumatic stress, phobias, anxiety stress disorders, negative beliefs, debilitating emotional states such as shame, guilt and procrastination, PMS, and addictions. This method is also effective in pain management.
MW4. MAPS FOR THE JOURNEY
This unit systematically explores developmental experience from conception onwards. A synthesis of the archetypal aspects of early development with understandings from developmental psychology and theories of Character Structure provide a comprehensive mapping of developmental stages and life tasks. This work with developmental response patterns leads to an exploration of personal mythology.
Affect theory and Defense theory are also explored from a Soul Centred perspective.
MW5. THOUGHT MATRIX CHAKRA HEALING AND COUNSELLING
This unit offers a comprehensive approach to working with the energetic patterns of chakras.
Developmental trauma is addressed theoretically and practically through the Eastern understanding of the Chakra system as a therapeutic approach. This form of healing combines the age-old wisdom of the Chakra system of energy pathways with the latest research in psychobiology — an approach that adds a dimension of practical and effective intervention to theories of childhood development and character structure.
Clinical studies of early development have discovered a matrix of unconscious decision and response patterns, personal and familial, which form around developmental wounds. The experience of abandonment, for example, typically involves 6 to 8 major beliefs and unconscious responses which interlock to make up the abandonment matrix. The training teaches ways to map and diffuse over 50 such matrices and install more generative response patterns using psychoenergetic techniques.
Graduates of the 18-month Mythic Way program are qualified to practice:
Soulful Presence Counselling
Matrix Meridian Counselling and Healing
Matrix Chakra Counselling and Healing

Stage Two - Developing as a therapist
Training takes place in a group setting with an emphasis on experiential work. Each skill is extensively workshopped. Graduates of stage two of the course qualify for a Certificate of Soul Centred Psychotherapy which becomes fully endorsed upon completion of 200 hours of supervised practice. Clinical membership of the ASCP (Association of Soul Centred Psychotherapists Inc.) requires a further 750 hours of supervised practice.
Supervision is offered in small groups (up to 5 participants) or individually, and provides a forum for continuing education, discussion and professional support. Ongoing supervision is considered an integral part of developing as a therapist.
The next stage of the course comprises a series of modules offered over eighteen months (6 terms). The work from The Mythic Way program forms the basis for ongoing study and practice of therapeutic interventions from:
- Energy psychology
- Body-centred psychotherapies
- Jungian psychotherapy
- Humanistic psychology
- Ericksonian hypnosis and psychotherapy
CSCP1. SOUL CENTRED TRANCE WORK
2 terms: 18 weekly sessions, 7-10 pm and 2 full-day sessions
Intensive training in the basic forms and artful application of trance work. Training involves demonstration by trainers, transcripts and video material. The principles of therapeutic trance work are presented theoretically and workshopped using video and audio playback, and constructive feedback to develop practical skills.
DSCP2. BI-LATERAL STIMULATION PROCESSING
2 terms: 18 weekly sessions, 7-10pm and 2 full-day sessions
A therapeutic modality that opens up accelerated information processing for healing trauma, character structure patterns, disruptive beliefs and behaviour. Bi-lateral stimulation processing is client centred and naturalistic, yet rigorous and structured, allowing the client’s natural drive towards integration and growth to emerge organically.
The course covers theory (well-researched information that offers profound insights into human functioning), structured practice sessions and demonstrations. For practising therapists, this training offers a way to bring together previous learnings and to develop deeper satisfaction in your work. Other interventions will be skillfully blended with bi-lateral stimulation to support your client’s movement to resolution and growth.
DSCP3. THE THERAPY SESSION
2 terms: 18 weekly sessions, 7-10pm and 2 full day sessions
In this part of the Diploma training, participants are developing the ability to hold the space for a client for a whole therapy session, bringing together the components learned in each module. The practical aspects of running a session are addressed. Ongoing development is sponsored via intensive workshopping and video playback.
This work supports students in assuming the role of therapist. Specifically, this involves
• being energetically present, observing and bearing witness to one’s own experience, the other person, and the energetic field between self and other in such a way that the client perceives the therapist as present;
• developing working hypotheses about the process;
• artfully testing the hypotheses and using specific interventions in a way that serves the therapeutic process.
Our understanding is that the basic ground of being human is also the basic ground of being a psychotherapist and is fundamental to training and development in this area. We propose that it is our responsibility as therapists to develop a conscious living relationship with our own inner world as well as learn ways to be present with the other person. The training program is specifically designed to develop this capacity.
This dual-task is demanding and asks for a willingness to engage one’s own inner work as well as learn therapeutic techniques. We are, therefore, seeking trainees who understand this as a necessary part of developing as a therapist.
The course is structured so that conceptual material is supported by experiential processes, demanding personal involvement in the training.
