LETTING GO – An exploration of Grief with Rose Merifield

Sunday March 26th, 10:30am -12:30pm

Letting Go

Settling into the present moment,
letting go completely,
not demanding to control,
that which cannot be controlled.

Peace,
not for the world,
and not forever,
just for this body at this time.
(Heartbreak to Hope- Kara Bowman)

Love
Take good care of your precious pain.
Wrap your strong arms around it.
Hold it against your warm chest.
Rock it gently,
telling it softly that it is loved.
It is needed.
It is important.
It makes perfect sense.
And love it, just as it is,
in all its agonising beauty.
(Heartbreak to Hope- Kara Bowman)

A common experience for people who are grieving is a sense of living a life that cannot be listened to. The isolation of feeling this way is stark enough to drain the colours from one’s world.

Without a listener, the healing process is aborted. Human beings, like plants bend towards the sunlight, bend toward others in an innate healing tropism. There are times when being truly listened to is more critical than being fed. Listening well to another’s pain is a primary form of nurturance, capable of healing even the most devastating of human afflictions, including the wounds and scars of violence, even the horrors of war and large-scale social trauma.

Children speak their pain automatically when there is a listener, but learn to hide it when there is no ear to hear.
(Healing Through The Dark Emotions by Miriam Greenspan)

Help us to be always hopeful
Gardeners of the spirit
Who know that without darkness
Nothing comes to birth
As without the light
Nothing flowers
(May Sarton -The invocation to Kali)

Grief…..is a feeling of extreme sadness, suffering, pain, regret.
(Collins dictionary)

Letting go ….  of holding, hiding, pretending, minimising…not knowing.
Loss … of identity, of family, of job, of career, of hope.

In a society where the highest goal seems to be happiness…… where does sadness -grief- longing live?

We so look forward to seeing you at this rich and tender shared exploration of grief, facilitated by Rose.
